The ransom money paid to the pirates of the Indian Ocean funds violence like in Mumbai. NPR broadcast that there is a company that can deter the pirates with minimal defensive actions. Oops! It didn't work. I wonder why there hasn't been a more dedicated effort to deter these terrorists. Where is the U.S. Navy? Who rules the sea?
This is like WWII when Uboats sunk the convoys sailing to Europe and the democracies have done nothing to really address the thieving. Cooperation at this point among those with the ability to protect the sea lanes would be good. These young Africans are holding the world hostage and supplying more terrorism that will be worse I fear than Mumbai. This type of thing could happen here in the U.S.
I say we spiff up our Navy and coordinate with all other nations, especially the Russians. It's all about above the sea. Submarines are always below the radar we hope.
On that note, why are whales beaching themselves in the Pacific ocean? Are the Chinese testing their new sonic capabilities. I think so. They are known to steal our technology wholesale. Do they care about whales? Do the Japanese care about whale harvesting? I doubt it. They want to be stronger than us and we have given them the chance economically. Bought something lately from the US or does it say made in China?
These small pirate craft assaults on tankers carrying Russian Tanks, $100 Million of oil, chemical weapons are now in the hands of terrorists supporting the people who turned Mumbai into a war zone. With the millions of dollars in their possession, who is next? I think it's time to treat war as war. To do nothing about the monies gained from the pirates to fund terrorism is to give in to them and await another large city disaster.
